Google Expands AI-Powered Search to 120 New Countries, Adds 4 New Languages, Improved Translation Features, and More Accessibility to Search Answers

Search Generative Experience (SGE) to offer Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian languages alongside improved translation capabilities and interactive definitions. Feature will initially launch in the US and will have a larger global roll-out over the coming months.

  • Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) expands to more than 120 new countries. The languages included in this expansion are Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian, already bringing the technology to places like Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.
  • Google has been testing and improving the generative AI in Search and has received primarily positive feedback in the US, India, and Japan, where the feature was initially launched. Recent enhancements make SGE more interactive during searches, with simplified follow-ups, AI-powered translation assistance, and more definitions for coding and health-related topics.
  • SGE will now support follow-up questions directly on the search results page, making it easier for users to continue exploring information on a topic directly from search results. This feature will initially be available in English in the US.
  • The expanded SGE's enhanced translation feature will help clarify words with multiple meanings. The feature will underline such terms, allowing users to specify the intended meaning when translating phrases. This function will initially be available for English-to-Spanish translations in the US.
  • Google will expand its interactive definitions feature, which provides contextual information about certain terms on the search results page. Initially introduced for educational topics, the feature now includes coding and health information. Definitions for highlighted terms can be seen by hovering the mouse over the term.
