Google Ends Gmailify and POP Mail Fetching Starting January 2026

Users who link Yahoo, Outlook or other accounts must switch to IMAP on mobile or enable provider forwarding on the web, without Gmail-only filtering and categories.

Overview

  • Google has begun notifying users in-app that Gmailify support is being discontinued beginning January 2026.
  • Gmail will retire the “Check mail from other accounts” feature that uses POP, so new messages will no longer be fetched via POP.
  • Emails previously imported through POP or Gmailify will remain accessible in users’ Gmail accounts.
  • Third‑party accounts can still be added to the Gmail app on Android and iOS via IMAP, but Gmail’s spam filtering, category tabs, and other exclusive features will not apply.
  • On the web, Google directs users to set up automatic forwarding with their other email providers, and it separately acknowledged a recent Gmail filtering issue causing spam misclassification and delays that it says is being resolved.
