Overview
- The update is rolling out now to the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, with broader Android support planned but not yet dated.
- Transfers work in both directions, letting Apple devices and Pixel 10 phones send photos, videos, and files to each other.
- Apple devices must be set to AirDrop’s “Everyone for 10 minutes” to appear as targets, and Pixel users must enable equivalent Quick Share visibility or Receive mode to get files.
- Google says the connection is direct and peer-to-peer with no server routing or content logging, built in Rust and vetted by internal reviews and third-party testing from NetSPI.
- Google states it implemented the bridge without Apple’s participation, Apple has not commented, and Google says it would like to collaborate to support AirDrop’s “Contacts Only” mode in the future.
