- Google has begun rolling out the redesigned document scanner through Google Play services so the new capture appears in Drive and other apps such as Files by Google.
- Smart Batch Scanning records a stream of pages in one sweep, shows an immediate preview, and splits captures into separate documents automatically.
- Auto-Best Frame replaces blurry frames with the clearest image and Duplicate Detection skips pages the scanner already captured to reduce repeats.
- The interface uses a Material 3 Expressive viewfinder and adds controls to pause auto scanning and pick existing images from the system file picker.
- All heavy processing runs on-device for speed, privacy and offline use, but Google limits the feature to Android phones with at least 8 GB of RAM, restricting access to mid- and high-end devices.
