Google Drive now lets users listen to short audio summaries of PDFs through its new Gemini feature.

Overview

  • A new Audio Overview button in the Drive web PDF viewer generates a 2–10 minute spoken summary that can be played in the Gemini side panel.
  • Each summary is saved to a central “Audio overviews” folder in Drive, with an email notification, making it easy to listen across devices.
  • Availability is limited to paid tiers including Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Google One AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.
  • The rollout is enabled by default on the web in English only, with Rapid Release domains getting access first and Scheduled Release domains starting Nov. 12 over up to 15 days.
  • The feature reuses NotebookLM’s Gemini technology, with hands-on tests noting two-host podcast narration and advising users to verify critical details due to possible AI errors.
