Overview

  • When previewing a video in Drive, an Open button now launches the file in Google Vids for quick edits like trimming, adding text, and music.
  • The rollout began August 21 and will appear over multiple weeks, enabled by default for supported organizations that have not disabled it.
  • Access is limited to paid tiers, including Workspace business and enterprise plans, nonprofits, Gemini Education and Education Premium, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and certain legacy Gemini add-on customers.
  • Opening from Drive creates a new Vids file, so users must save or export the edited version to retain changes.
  • The feature supports recent Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge on Windows, accepts MP4, QuickTime, OGG, and WebM, and limits individual clips to 35 minutes or 4GB.
