Google Confirms Workspace Access Outage Affecting Drive, Docs and Sheets

Google says engineers are investigating SSL-related access errors with no identified cause.

  • Disruptions began around 9 a.m. PST on Nov. 12, stopping some users from opening or editing files in the affected apps.
  • Google reports some customers are seeing the ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR message when accessing Drive, Docs or Sheets.
  • Outage tracker Downdetector recorded roughly 2,000 to 2,700 user reports, with Google Drive drawing the most complaints.
  • The Workspace status page initially showed no incidents before Google posted an incident notice, an apology and an investigation update.
