Overview

  • Google confirmed in its Chrome Platform Status that Chrome 138 will be the last version compatible with macOS Big Sur.
  • Chrome 139, due to ship on July 30, will require macOS 12 Monterey or later for new installations.
  • On macOS Big Sur, existing Chrome installations will continue running but display a warning infobar and stop receiving updates.
  • Users seeking ongoing security patches must upgrade to Monterey or newer if their Mac supports it or choose an alternative browser.
  • Hardware limitations prevent many Macs released before 2015 from installing newer macOS versions, leaving some devices exposed to unpatched vulnerabilities.
