Google Calendar Adds Scheduled Task Blocks That Function Like Meetings

Google says the phased release began for Rapid Release domains on November 6 with wider availability expected by mid-December.

Overview

  • Users can reserve a specific block of time for a task, appear as busy, and adjust the duration as needed.
  • Optional settings enable do-not-disturb during a task block and automatically reject overlapping meeting invites.
  • Tasks now include a deadline field that accepts only a date rather than a specific time.
  • The feature differs from Focus Time by assigning a particular task to the reserved calendar slot.
  • Availability covers all Workspace customers, Google One subscribers, and personal Gmail accounts, and users can create a timed task by selecting an empty calendar slot and choosing Task.
