Google Brings Gemini to Chrome for U.S. Desktop Users, Previews Agentic Browsing

Overview

  • Gemini in Chrome is now rolling out to Mac and Windows users in the U.S. in English, with iOS updates and enhanced Android overlays coming soon.
  • Access no longer requires AI Pro or AI Ultra, and Workspace customers will get the features in the coming weeks with enterprise-grade data protections.
  • A new Gemini button opens a side panel that can summarize pages, answer context-specific questions, work across multiple tabs, and integrate with Calendar, Drive, Docs, Maps, and YouTube.
  • AI Mode will arrive in the address bar later this month for U.S. users, enabling conversational queries and page-specific suggestions that surface answers in a side panel.
  • Agentic capabilities are planned for the coming months to click, scroll, and type through multi-step tasks with final-step confirmation, while on-device Gemini Nano will expand scam detection and a password agent will offer one-click credential changes on supported sites.
