• On June 25, 2025, Google launched Gemini CLI as a fully open-source AI agent under the Apache 2.0 license
• It runs Gemini 2.5 Pro locally in the terminal to handle coding, debugging, content generation, research and task management via natural language prompts
• The free tier grants 60 model requests per minute and 1,000 requests per day alongside a one-million-token context window
• Gemini CLI is integrated with Gemini Code Assist to deliver AI-first coding workflows in VS Code and terminals without extra cost
• Built-in support for the Model Context Protocol, system prompts and bundled extensions allows developers to tailor and extend the agent to specific workflows
