Google Begins Rolling Out ‘Ask Gemini’ in Meet to Select Workspace Customers

The desktop-only launch targets English meetings for limited Workspace tiers, with Google emphasizing privacy safeguards plus visible disclosure.

Overview

  • The in-meeting side panel can summarize discussions, flag decisions and action items, and provide late-join recaps when Take Notes for Me is enabled.
  • Answers draw from live captions, permitted Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Gmail, along with Google Search and public websites.
  • Responses are private to each participant and Google says no captions or other meeting data are stored after a call, with banners or audio notices revealing when the feature is active.
  • Ask Gemini is enabled by default, though hosts can turn it off during a meeting and administrators can set the organization-wide default to off.
  • Availability starts on desktop for English across Enterprise Plus, Enterprise (Standard), Business Plus and Business Standard, with broader access planned in Q1 2026 and Google cautioning that Gemini can make mistakes that users should review.
