Google Begins Android 16 QPR1 Rollout, Bringing Material 3 Expressive to Older Pixels

The September Pixel Feature Drop starts a weeks-long release that brings a new look to Pixel 6 or newer devices.

Overview

  • The update is live today for Pixel 6 and newer phones plus the Pixel Tablet and Fold, while Pixel 10 models move to the September security patch.
  • Material 3 Expressive adds Live effects on the lock screen, a redesigned Quick Settings panel with up to 16 tiles, and customizable calling screens.
  • Pixel Buds Pro 2 pick up Adaptive Audio, Loud Noise Protection, and nod or shake gestures for calls, with availability slated for later this month.
  • Pixel Watch now auto-displays walking or biking navigation started on your phone for hands-free directions.
  • Google says the OTA will roll out over the next few weeks; some Pixel 10 units already received build BD3A.250721.001.B7 with the September 5, 2025 security patch, and factory or OTA images and detailed notes are not yet posted.
