Google Announces Quick Share SDK to Let Apps Send Files Directly

The kit gives developers a way to build fast, encrypted local transfers into Android and iPhone apps without routing files through cloud servers.

Overview

  • Google unveiled a Quick Share developer kit that will let Android and iOS apps integrate peer-to-peer file transfers natively instead of sending users to the system Share sheet or a separate Quick Share interface.
  • The company says the SDK will arrive in the first half of 2027 and will include an in-app bottom sheet that shows a preview of files being sent.
  • Google describes transfers as end-to-end encrypted between nearby devices and able to move full-resolution photos and videos without compression.
  • The SDK automatically manages connections using Wi‑Fi Direct and device hotspots so transfers work offline and aim for low latency and high speed.
  • Android Headlines reports an optional NFC tap-to-share flow and both outlets note the kit could cut developers’ need to run cloud transfer servers, which would reduce costs and simplify app workflows.
