Google and Partners to Launch AI-Powered Satellites for Wildfire Detection

The FireSat constellation aims to provide updated imagery every 20 minutes, helping to spot and manage wildfires globally.

Google is collaborating with Muon Space, the Earth Fire Alliance, and others to deploy 52 FireSat satellites over the coming years.
The satellites will use infrared sensors and AI models to detect fires as small as five square meters anywhere on Earth.
Imagery and analysis from FireSat will be provided free to fire agencies worldwide, enhancing their ability to respond quickly and effectively.
The first satellite launch is scheduled for early 2025, with the full constellation expected to be operational by the end of the decade.
The project has secured two-thirds of its $400 million funding goal, with Google.org contributing $13 million.
