Google Adds Gemini Controls to Pixel Buds With App Update

The Pixel Buds app now lets Gemini adjust EQ, noise cancellation and touch settings while several previewed features remain dependent on firmware updates.

Overview

  • Pixel Buds companion app version 1.0.981607934 is rolling out on the Play Store and registers Pixel Buds as a Connected App in Gemini, enabling direct assistant control.
  • After the update, Gemini voice commands bring up an overlay that shows a connecting message and can change EQ presets, ANC mode, conversation detection, and touch controls.
  • On phones that have not received the app update, the same Gemini voice commands open the system Bluetooth settings instead of controlling the earbuds.
  • Google had previewed Dynamic ANC for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, Pixel Watch sleep sync, and tap-to-trigger Live Translate, but those capabilities have not appeared and are reported to likely require separate firmware or device updates.
  • The rollout highlights that the app provides the assistant interface while deeper features need firmware and watch-side coordination, so users should expect a staged release before the full set of promised functions is available.
