Overview
- Google, which began the wide rollout Tuesday, has added a built-in audio recorder to the Gemini Notebook mobile app on Android and iOS.
- The recorder captures up to one hour per session, shows a live waveform and timer, and supports pause, resume and background recording while you switch apps or lock the screen.
- When you finish a recording the app uploads a transcript that becomes a queryable source inside a notebook and does not retain the original audio file.
- Tapping the new microphone on the home screen creates a new notebook for that recording while tapping it from a notebook’s Sources tab saves the transcript to the open notebook.
- Users should check app requirements (reported Android 10 or later and iOS 17 or later), verify language and plan support before relying on it, and obtain consent from others before recording because the app only keeps transcripts.
