Overview
- ELS triggers automatically on compatible Android phones (Android 6.0 and above) during 112 calls or SMS, requires no app or hardware, and is free to use.
- The system uses Android’s machine-learning Fused Location Provider combining GPS, Wi‑Fi and cellular data to deliver locations often within about 50 metres, including indoors or in transit.
- During pilot testing in Uttar Pradesh, ELS supported more than 20 million emergency calls and messages and identified locations even when calls dropped within seconds.
- UP Police adopted the service with Pert Telecom Solutions, enabling UP112 operators to view coordinates instantly and dispatch police, medical or fire services.
- Google says ELS already operates in 60+ countries and is inviting other Indian states to integrate, with any expansion contingent on local emergency systems and carriers.
