Goodwill SF Bay to Close Headquarters and Oakland Store in Major Restructuring

The closures, set for June, will result in 90 layoffs as part of a strategy to optimize operations and prepare for future growth.

Goodwill San Francisco Bay has filed a WARN notice confirming the permanent closure of its San Francisco headquarters and Oakland by-the-pound store by June 7, 2025.
The closures will lead to 90 layoffs, including 72 workers at the Oakland store and 18 employees at the SF headquarters.
Employees not laid off will retain their pay and benefits, with options to work remotely or at other Goodwill locations.
The Oakland store's closure comes just months after it reopened in December 2024 following a remodel and introduction of a new shopping system.
These changes follow a 2024 merger with a Phoenix-based chapter, which brought a full leadership overhaul and repositioned the SF Bay local as a subsidiary of the Arizona chapter.
