Goods Vehicles Barred From Mumbai–Pune Missing Link From Nov. 1

Officials cite tunnel design and safety reviews to justify permanent restrictions that redirect freight to the original expressway.

Overview

  • The Maharashtra Traffic Police issued a notification on October 26 that takes effect on November 1 and bars all goods‑carrying vehicles from the 13.3 km Missing/Connecting Link until further orders.
  • The ban explicitly covers light commercial goods vehicles such as pickup vans and Tata Ace and also bars vehicles carrying flammable, explosive or other hazardous materials.
  • Private cars and other non‑transport light motor vehicles and permitted passenger buses may use the Missing Link and must obey new speed limits of 100 km/h for LMVs and 80 km/h for passenger buses.
  • Police and the Highway Safety Patrol have been directed to enforce the rules, register cases against violators, and apply a 5% tolerance in detected speed when taking cognisance under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • The Missing Link, opened on May 1 to bypass the Khandala ghat and cut travel time by about 20–30 minutes, has retained and now formalized initial post‑opening restrictions after collisions and a six‑month operational safety review.
