• DEC closed the trail on June 6 after hikers reported a bull moose displaying abnormal behaviors around the Goodman Mountain path.
• A state wildlife veterinarian and DEC staff performed on-site evaluations on July 10–11 but have not yet confirmed the moose’s condition.
• Three trail cameras capture the animal’s movements nonstop as Forest Rangers patrol all access points to enforce the closure.
• Officials suspect an underlying illness is keeping the moose from leaving the area after its usual antler shedding season.
