Goodfellas Acquires Rectangle Productions

The merger strengthens Goodfellas' film and TV production capabilities while preserving Rectangle's creative independence and ongoing projects.

French sales company Goodfellas has acquired Rectangle Productions, a renowned Paris-based production company, following Rectangle's financial struggles and bankruptcy filing earlier this year.
Rectangle Productions, co-founded by Édouard Weil in 2003 and later joined by Alice Girard, has produced over 60 films, including the award-winning 'Happening' and 'Emmanuelle.'
Goodfellas will retain Rectangle's brand, creative independence, attached talent, and ongoing projects, while recruiting Weil as an in-house producer under a court-approved recovery plan.
The merger enhances Goodfellas' film and TV production capabilities, complementing its international sales operations and expanding its content portfolio.
Rectangle's financial difficulties were attributed to a legal dispute with filmmaker Xavier Giannoli, the pandemic's impact on the film industry, and disappointing box office performances of recent titles.
