Overview
- The swollen Gomti pushed floodwater from northern fringe villages into central Lucknow, submerging Shaheed Path, Gomti Nagar Extension and areas near Ekana Stadium and Phoenix Palassio.
- City and state teams have mounted a major relief effort with temporary barriers, roughly 25–26 pumping sets, about 90 boats, 20 water tankers, temporary shelters and regular food and medicine distribution.
- Thousands of residents in Faizullaganj and multiple colonies remain trapped in waterlogged homes and face shortages of drinking water, medicines and supplies, with some areas reporting up to four feet of water.
- Irrigation officials recorded an 8 cm fall at upstream Bhatpurva and say that upstream recession should reach Lucknow’s monitoring points in about 24–48 hours if the fall continues, offering conditional near-term relief.
- Political leaders have blamed local drainage failings and project work for worsening the impact while authorities say the flood was driven by fast-moving incoming flows from Pilibhit, Lakhimpur and Sitapur that overwhelmed drainage and stalled LDA projects.
