Gold-Plated Kalash Stolen From Delhi Jain Temple During Karva Chauth

Police have launched technical surveillance to identify the suspect, probing a possible link to a recent Red Fort theft.

Overview

  • CCTV footage shows a man loitering near 11:45 pm before scaling the temple using electric wires and removing the urn from the spire.
  • The stolen piece is described as an asth-dhatu or copper kalash with gold lamination, weighing about 25–30 kg with roughly 200 grams of gold, valued at Rs 35–40 lakh.
  • The theft was discovered Saturday morning and reported at Jyoti Nagar police station by temple committee president Neeraj Jain.
  • DCP Ashish Mishra said a case has been registered under BNS sections 305 (theft) and 331(4) (trespass), with multiple teams deployed to trace the suspect.
  • Investigators are reviewing viral clips from the scene and assessing ties to a September 3 theft near the Red Fort in which arrests were later made in Ghaziabad.
