Gogoi Alleges Rs 3,500-Crore JJM Dues in Assam as State BJP Calls Claim Misleading
The Congress MP took the issue to the Lok Sabha, citing contractor protests.
Overview
- Gaurav Gogoi told Parliament that unpaid Jal Jeevan Mission bills in Assam total about Rs 3,500 crore, leaving contractors and workers in distress.
- He alleged that only contractors linked to BJP ministers and MLAs received partial payments and said some vendors had resorted to street protests.
- He urged immediate intervention from the State and Central governments and sought dialogue to protect Jal Mitras, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Assam’s PHE minister earlier told the Assembly that JJM projects face multilayered scrutiny and reported 27,596 schemes taken up, 18,498 completed and 17,230 handed over.
- The Assam BJP rebutted Gogoi’s remarks as misleading, citing 74% coverage, 17,230 operational handovers, 13,767 schemes with full water supply, and 1,268 projects pending full functionality with funds released on certification.
