Godley Approves 30-Day Fort Worth Partnership to Remove Roaming Dogs

Officials say the effort opens the door to regional partnerships for future animal control.

Overview

  • The Godley City Council approved a 30-day agreement with Fort Worth Animal Services to trap and remove about 13 dogs for up to $6,000, or $200 per dog.
  • Johnson County joined the plan because many dogs are on ranch land outside city limits, and Fort Worth will secure, assess and place the animals.
  • Homeowners reported dogs charging at children and pets, while Texas All Creatures Rescue said the animals showed no aggression in their encounters.
  • Volunteers said they have moved several dogs into foster care, including a mother with nine puppies, and pack-size estimates range from roughly a dozen to as many as 20–30.
  • Residents voiced relief at immediate action but concern about what happens after 30 days as leaders discuss longer-term regional solutions, including potential facility plans.
