Overview
- Assam’s disaster authority reported the flood toll rose to 82 after two more deaths, with about 1.9 lakh people still affected and 54 relief camps sheltering nearly 13,000 displaced people while NDRF and SDRF units continue rescue and relief work.
- The Assam government has asked insurers and NBFCs to speed claim settlements and sought a six-month moratorium on loan repayments for the worst-hit districts to ease financial strain on flood victims.
- Kerala’s official counts changed as rescue operations progressed, with the state later reporting 11 deaths and more than 7,600 people evacuated to relief camps while IMD orange and red alerts and several dam shutter operations guided emergency action.
- In Gujarat heavy downpours raised reservoir and river levels, led authorities in Surat to evacuate over 4,000 people, deploy SDRF/NDRF teams and open or release water from several dams as roads and riverside infrastructure were damaged.
- Across the three states floodwaters and landslides have destroyed homes, damaged thousands of hectares of crops and cut roads, testing disaster-management systems and prompting short-term relief measures and ongoing damage assessments that will shape recovery.
