Godavari Swells Again With Upstream Releases, 6.59 Lakh Cusecs at Dowleswaram

Officials attribute the renewed surge to reservoir releases following heavy upstream rain.

Overview

  • The APSDMA reported inflows and outflows at Dowleswaram at 6.59 lakh cusecs, with the Godavari at Bhadrachalam reaching 35.3 ft.
  • Sri Ram Sagar Project received about 4.30 lakh cusecs and Sripada Yellampalli logged 6.83 lakh cusecs of instant inflow, driving hefty downstream releases.
  • At the Medigadda barrage under the Kaleshwaram project, inflows and outflows touched 9.71 lakh cusecs with all 85 crest gates opened.
  • Nirmal and Adilabad districts saw roads washed out, villages cut off and farmland submerged, and Kaleshwaram’s Pushkar Ghat crossed the first warning level.
  • On the Krishna system, APSDMA said the first-level warning at Vijayawada’s Prakasam Barrage was withdrawn as sizeable releases continued at Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Pulichintala.
