Godavari Nears Second Flood Warning as Releases Surge Across Basins

  • APSDMA kept the first warning active on the Godavari as Bhadrachalam touched about 52 feet and Dowleswaram recorded roughly 11–11.2 lakh cusecs on Thursday, with a second warning likely early Friday at over 13 lakh cusecs.
  • Sustained inflows forced large releases across the Krishna system, with Srisailam near 5.4 lakh cusecs, Nagarjuna Sagar around 4.3 lakh cusecs, Pulichintala above 4.1 lakh cusecs, and Prakasam Barrage near 5.1 lakh cusecs before easing later in the day.
  • In Telangana, Medigadda (Kaleshwaram) lifted all 85 gates with free-flow conditions around 9.02 lakh cusecs, and district administrations moved to evacuate low-lying areas and keep SDRF/NDRF on standby.
  • Karnataka reported inter‑State Krishna discharges above 2 lakh cusecs at the border, submerging bridges in Belagavi and forcing detours as authorities managed elevated outflows from Almatti and other reservoirs.
  • In the north and west, BBMB increased controlled releases from Pong and Bhakra as Beas and Sutlej swelled into Punjab fields, while Maharashtra authorities opened gates at full or near‑full dams and evacuated residents in Pune and Pimpri‑Chinchwad.
