Godavari Levels Recede After Hitting Second Warning at Bhadrachalam

Officials sustain controlled releases to protect reservoirs during ongoing relief operations.

  • APSDMA reported 49.3 feet at 6:30 am on August 22 at Bhadrachalam, placing the Godavari at the second flood-warning level with an expectation of easing by night.
  • By 10:00 am, Telangana authorities measured 47.50 feet at Bhadrachalam with a discharge of 11.19 lakh cusecs, below the second-warning mark yet above the first-warning threshold.
  • Inflows and outflows at the Dowleswaram barrage stood at 13.11 lakh cusecs, and the Medigadda barrage had all 85 gates open with equal flows of 6.21 lakh cusecs.
  • Telangana reported declining inflows across the Godavari and Krishna basins, with Jurala, Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar recording lower levels than Thursday peaks.
  • Four NDRF and eight SDRF teams are deployed, Rs 16 crore has been sanctioned for relief, and officials cautioned residents in low-lying and island villages.
