Godavari Crosses Second Warning at Bhadrachalam as Krishna Stays in High Flood in Andhra Pradesh

Fresh rises are testing flood readiness for low-lying communities already under official alerts.

Overview

  • Bhadrachalam recorded 48.80 feet at 8 a.m. Tuesday with an estimated 11.82 lakh cusecs in flow, triggering the second warning level, the district collector said.
  • Officials cautioned that levels could rise further with heavy rain upstream, restricted bathing and boat operations on the river, and reported transport disruptions to several villages.
  • At Vijayawada’s Prakasam Barrage, the Krishna was passing 6,86,074 cusecs with the gauge at 16.4 feet on Monday, and the second flood warning remains in force, according to APSDMA data.
  • At Dowleswaram on the Godavari, inflows and outflows were around 9,80,447 cusecs on Monday as authorities reported the first flood warning withdrawn with levels then receding.
  • State agencies kept alerts active, deployed two NDRF and three SDRF teams in vulnerable areas, and directed residents in low-lying zones to avoid crossing flooded channels and roads.
