Goa Sets December 20 Zilla Panchayat Polls as Model Code Takes Effect

Ballot paper voting, spending caps, and reserved seats set the rules of the contest.

Overview

  • Nominations will be accepted December 1–9 with scrutiny on December 10 and withdrawals on December 11.
  • Polling for 50 constituencies across North and South Goa will use paper ballots, and counting is scheduled for December 22.
  • The electorate totals 868,637, including 448,201 women and 420,431 men, based on Assembly rolls adopted as of January 1, 2025.
  • The SEC has set up 1,284 polling stations and finalized reservations: North Goa nine for women, seven for OBC, one for SC, one for ST; South Goa ten for women, six for OBC, five for ST.
  • Each candidate faces a Rs 5 lakh spending cap, with observers, flying squads, and surveillance teams deployed to enforce the Model Code of Conduct.
