Overview
- Kushavati will comprise the talukas of Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona, carved out of South Goa.
- A formal notification will be issued soon, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
- Administrative work will initially be run from South Goa, with its collector handling duties until a full-time collector is appointed for Kushavati.
- The state will seek central support under the Aspirational Districts Programme, with the CM noting roughly 27% tribal population in the proposed district area.
- A committee formed in November 2023 examined feasibility and boundaries, and the CM has pledged to share its report as opposition leaders demand transparency on costs and process.
