Overview
- Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated India’s first roll-on/roll-off ferry service on the Mandovi River on July 14, linking Chorao island and Panaji
- Service runs from 7 am to 9 pm with two conventional ferries covering overnight hours to maintain continuous connectivity
- Vessels named Dwarka and Gangotri hold 16 four-wheelers, 40 two-wheelers and over 100 passengers and cut crossing time to 12–13 minutes
- Built by Vijai Marine Shipyards in Goa under a zero-cost BOOT contract, the eco-friendly engines are designed to reduce carbon emissions
- Authorities will assess performance over two months before extending Ro-Ro ferries to additional inland waterway routes
