Overview
- The revenue department on January 1 reconstituted Goa into three districts and officially notified the new unit as Kushavati.
- Kushavati comprises the talukas of Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona, with the district headquarters in Quepem.
- Until offices and staffing are in place, the South Goa collector will hold interim charge of the four talukas.
- A separate zilla panchayat is being created for Kushavati as the government assigns additional officers and phases the transition.
- The state says it will seek aspirational‑district designation to tap roughly Rs 15 crore in central funds, while opposition leaders demand the committee report and clearer cost details.
