Goa Cabinet Approves 51% Pay Hike and Formal Benefits for Daily Wage Workers

Effective August 1 the scheme elevates wages to as much as ₹25,000 with social-security coverage for around 3,000 long-serving labourers.

Overview

  • The cabinet cleared the plan with an annual fiscal impact of ₹4 crore, marking formal approval of the August 1 rollout.
  • Workers with seven years of service will gain temporary status and see take-home pay jump from ₹12,818 to ₹20,000 for frontline roles.
  • Clerks, drivers, electricians and similar grades will receive revised monthly wages of ₹25,000 under the new structure.
  • Eligible employees will receive leave entitlements, 3% annual increments, Employee Provident Fund contributions and access to central pension and insurance schemes.
  • Future daily-wage hiring will be banned outside the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation to standardize recruitment processes.
