GMP Refers Response After Fatal Mancunian Way Collision

The force is appealing for camera footage following the arrest of a man in his 40s on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Overview

  • A pedestrian in his 20s died at the scene after being struck around 12:50am on the A57(M) as a Volkswagen Passat merged from a slip road.
  • Greater Manchester Police said the man was believed to have been crossing the carriageway when the collision occurred.
  • Police disclosed that a call had reported a man walking on the Mancunian Way shortly before the crash, prompting a high-priority search that did not locate him.
  • GMP has referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in light of that earlier report and the subsequent fatality.
  • The road was closed in both directions between Chester Road and Princess Parkway as investigators worked at the scene, and officers are seeking witnesses and any CCTV, dashcam or mobile footage, quoting log 111 of 31/10/25 or via GMP’s website or Crimestoppers.
