Overview

  • General Motors is recalling 62,468 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD trucks from 2019 to 2024 over a brake pressure sensor assembly flaw that may leak fluid into the switch and cause a fire.
  • The defect stems from an unauthorized chemical used by the supplier that degrades a rubber component in the brake pressure sensor over time.
  • GM estimates that about 1% of the recalled trucks, roughly 625 vehicles, could exhibit the flaw and has logged 160 field reports including one underhood fire but no injuries.
  • Owners will receive initial recall notices by mail starting July 28 and a follow-up letter when replacement parts are ready.
  • Dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness free of charge and owners are urged to park affected trucks outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed.
