GM Recalls Over 132,000 Trucks Due to Tailgate Safety Issue

The recall affects select 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models with power-unlatching tailgates prone to water-induced short circuits.

General Motors is recalling approximately 132,037 heavy-duty trucks in the U.S. due to a defect causing tailgates to unlatch unexpectedly while parked.
The affected models include 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 equipped with power-unlatching tailgates.
Water intrusion into the electronic gate-release switch can lead to short circuits, creating a risk of cargo falling onto roads and posing safety hazards.
The recall expands on a February 2024 recall of 323,000 trucks with similar issues; GM has received 237 field reports of unintended tailgate openings.
Dealers will replace the affected tailgate touchpad switch assemblies free of charge, with owner notification letters scheduled to be sent starting January 13, 2025.
