Glooscap First Nation Announces Community-Owned Seafood Market

The project will strengthen the First Nation’s economy by keeping seafood profits within the community.

Overview

  • Glooscap Ventures has formalized a partnership with Lindsay Construction to design and develop the 4,000-square-foot market at its Glooscap Landing business centre near Hantsport.
  • The two-storey barn-style building will feature solar panels and battery storage to ensure operations during power outages.
  • Upon its anticipated opening later this year, the market is expected to create 10 full-time and 20 part-time positions for community members.
  • Local suppliers will provide produce, deli meats and baked goods, with Glooscap Seafood supplying the majority of lobster, shellfish, scallops and fish.
  • Revenue generated will fund community services such as housing, education and infrastructure to advance Glooscap First Nation’s goal of economic self-determination.
