Global NCAP Gives Maruti Celerio 3 Stars, Ciaz 1 Star in Latest India Tests

The results show that added airbags cannot compensate for unstable structures or child-seat limitations on these older Maruti platforms.

Overview

  • Global NCAP’s December 2025 assessments rated the India-spec Celerio at 3 stars for adult protection and 2 stars for child protection after six airbags and ESC became standard.
  • The Celerio’s bodyshell and footwell were judged unstable, limiting gains despite passing side and side-pole evaluations with mostly marginal chest and abdomen protection.
  • Child-occupant performance in the Celerio was weak as the forward-facing seat for the three-year-old allowed head exposure and the 18‑month rearward-facing seat showed poor chest control, with no front airbag deactivation available.
  • The discontinued Ciaz scored 1 star for adult protection and 3 stars for child protection, with an unstable structure, no curtain airbags leading to a skipped side-pole test, and missing three-point belts for every seat.
  • Global NCAP contrasted these findings with five-star results for newer Maruti models such as the Dzire and Victoris, emphasizing ongoing gaps that matter for current owners and used-car shoppers.
