Overview

  • In the first inning in Cleveland, Torres was struck in the head and neck by Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio’s glove and elbow after Johnathan Rodriguez’s flip pulled Rocchio off second base.
  • Torres remained on the field for a brief examination by trainers before being removed and diagnosed with a bruised neck.
  • Detroit reshuffled its infield, moving Javier Báez from shortstop to second base and inserting Mark Sweeney at shortstop following Torres’s exit.
  • Entering Saturday’s game, Torres was batting .279 with an 18-game on-base streak and had earned a spot as an American League starter for the July 15 All-Star Game.
  • The Tigers will continue to monitor Torres’s condition as they prepare for upcoming regular-season matchups and the mid-July All-Star break.
