Glenn Maxwell Targets Late India T20I Return After Wrist Surgery

Post-surgery rehab in a splint leaves only a slim chance of a late-series return.

Overview

  • Maxwell was left out of Australia’s squads for the first two T20Is against India on October 29 and 31 in Canberra and Melbourne.
  • He says surgery on his fractured right wrist offers a narrow window to feature in the final three games scheduled for Hobart (Nov 2), the Gold Coast (Nov 6) and Brisbane (Nov 8).
  • After a cast removal this week, he has begun basic wrist movement under a hand therapist and will wear a moulded plastic splint during early rehabilitation.
  • The fracture occurred when a Mitchell Owen drive struck his wrist while he was bowling in the nets before the New Zealand T20Is, adding to a run of unusual injuries in his career.
  • If he misses India, Maxwell expects the operation and rehab timeline to position him for a full Big Bash League season with the Melbourne Stars.
