Glenn Irwin Hospitalised After Donington Crash

He was moved to Queen's Medical Centre for specialist scans over a suspected spinal fracture after a high-speed crash that stopped Race 3 early.

Overview

  • Television footage showed Irwin lose the rear of his Ducati at Starkey's Bridge on the penultimate lap, be kicked by the bike, high‑side and tumble across the grass before being tended to by track medics.
  • Race officials immediately red‑flagged Race 3 and declared Scott Redding the winner when the leaders approached the same section on the final lap.
  • Irwin was assessed at Donington's medical centre, remained conscious and stable, and was transferred to Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham for specialist imaging because doctors feared a spinal fracture.
  • Doctors later cleared Irwin of major injury and he was discharged from hospital with a plan to be reviewed for fitness to ride ahead of the season finale at Brands Hatch.
  • This is the second hospital transfer for Irwin this year after injuries at Snetterton in June, and Redding's Donington victory tightens the championship fight that will be decided at the Brands Hatch weekend on 17–18 October.
