Overview
- On August 18, Glencore formally lodged RIGI applications for its Agua Rica copper-gold-silver-molybdenum mine in Catamarca and the El Pachón copper-molybdenum project in San Juan
- The filings propose $4.0 billion in capital for Agua Rica and $9.5 billion for El Pachón (Phase 1) to be invested over the next decade
- Glencore projects combined direct employment exceeding 10,000 workers during construction and more than 2,500 roles once operations begin
- Agua Rica holds measured and indicated resources of about 1.2 billion tonnes grading 0.47% copper, 0.20 g/t gold, 3.40 g/t silver and 0.03% molybdenum, while El Pachón boasts roughly 6 billion tonnes at 0.43% copper, 2.2 g/t silver and 130 g/t molybdenum
- These applications raise the RIGI pipeline to 20 projects valued at over $33.6 billion and now face environmental assessments and provincial and national approvals before securing regime benefits
