Overview
- Borussia Mönchengladbach have replaced their interim coaching arrangement by hiring Alexander Blessin as head coach to arrest a poor start to the Bundesliga season.
- The club made the change after a string of league defeats that led to the dismissal of Eugen Polanski and a short interim spell under Jan-Moritz Lichte.
- Blessin arrives with recent experience managing FC St. Pauli and a background in youth coaching at RB Leipzig, plus senior spells in Belgium and Italy with KV Oostende, Genoa and Union Saint-Gilloise.
- He has been offered a multi-year deal running to June 2028 and will be formally presented at a press conference at ista-Borussia-Park with sporting director Rouven Schröder in attendance.
- Blessin will use the international break to work with the squad and the club will be watching early improvements in results, defensive stability and player morale when the team resumes league play on October 11.
