GLAAD Report Highlights Decline in LGBTQ Representation in Major Studio Films

The annual study notes a decrease in LGBTQ characters and a significant drop in transgender representation in 2023 film releases.

GLAAD's 12th annual Studio Responsibility Index reviewed 256 films from 10 major distributors in 2023.
Only 27.3% of these films included LGBTQ characters, down from 28.5% in 2022.
Of the 170 LGBTQ characters identified, only two were transgender, a sharp decrease from 13 the previous year.
Racial diversity among LGBTQ characters improved, with 46% being characters of color, up from 40% in 2022.
Apple TV+ received the only failing grade for LGBTQ representation, while Amazon earned the highest rating of 'Good.'
