Overview
- GKN will add a dedicated additive manufacturing line in Newington, Connecticut to produce the fan case mount ring for Pratt & Whitney’s PW1500G and PW1900G engines.
- The expansion is intended to support full-volume production in one U.S. location as Trollhättan, Sweden continues making about 30 units per month with finishing currently done in Newington.
- The company expects all fan case mount rings for the two engines to be made using additive processes by the end of 2025, with reports pointing to full serial production on that timeline.
- GKN cites more than 70% material savings, shorter lead times, and stronger supply chains from its proprietary metal additive process.
- The investment will create jobs in Connecticut, follows a $50 million additive expansion in 2024, and the company says it is evaluating additional engine applications without naming specific programs.
