Overview
- Two siblings believed to be from Romania fell into the Thames near Royal Terrace Pier on May 30, and a seven-year-old boy was pulled from the water at 1.46 pm and taken to hospital.
- Kent Police’s Marine Unit joined RNLI lifeboats, HM Coastguard vessels, Metropolitan Police boats, a police helicopter and South East Coast Ambulance Service in an extensive search.
- Search efforts resumed Saturday morning along the riverbank and resulted in the recovery of a body at around 11.40 am, which was later confirmed as the missing girl.
- Next of kin have formally identified the girl and Kent Police say her death is not being treated as suspicious, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
- The rescued boy remains in stable condition at a local hospital and specialist officers are providing support to the children’s parents.
