Giovanni Zarrella, 46, required two surgeries to remove large kidney stones after months of severe pain and unsuccessful management with medication.
The operations were deemed necessary as the size of the kidney stones made natural passage impossible, according to his medical team.
Zarrella had previously been forced to interrupt professional commitments, including rehearsals for his ZDF show and a WDR talk show appearance, due to the pain.
Following the surgeries, Zarrella expressed gratitude for the support from fans and relief at being healthy in time to spend the holidays with his family.
He is set to appear in the pre-recorded 'Helene Fischer Show' on December 25, marking his return to television after his recovery.
